Sophisticated Retirement Flat

Eastbourne

An elegant, yet comfortable, retirement flat refurbishment

At Pfeiffer Design, we love how unique each project is, and this particular one was something really special. The refurbishment of a two-bedroom retirement flat for a wonderful client in her 80s who was downsizing from her large family home and looking for somewhere to live that was elegant, comfortable and sophisticated; whilst cosy and ultimately practical for an elderly lady to live alone.

No stone left unturned

In its original state, the flat was in desperate need of refurbishment and bringing up to date, in order to make it a comfortable home for our client. We oversaw the project completely, from start to finish, and project managed the whole thing. No stone was left unturned by Jenna, our Senior Interior Designer, who saw the project through from concept to completion, providing the following along the way:

Old-School Communication

Throughout our design process, we considered the fact that the flat needed to be practical for a client in her 80s. This brief influenced our designs throughout; marrying the traditional with the contemporary and creating a home that felt modern in terms of design, but not too far out of our client’s comfort zone. We specified every aspect of this home, and considered every tiny detail in order to be absolutely certain our designs would work amongst the client’s existing furniture, artwork and belongings, and think the finished result speaks for itself.

Another interesting quirk of this particular project was that our client didn’t use email – or even have access to a mobile phone! Meaning our communication skills had to be finely tuned in order to keep her abreast of any developments as the project progressed. In the end, it ended up being a blessing – enabling us to have lots of face time and getting to spend many hours in the company of a wonderful storyteller!
