A Second Home by the Sea
Although Pfeiffer Design specialise in high-end new-build interior architecture and whole home refurbishments, we absolutely love working on smaller projects, especially second homes and AirBnBs. Our lovely clients approached us to help refurbish & re-furnish their existing Brighton holiday home, inspired by the wealth of new residential developments popping up in Brighton & Hove. This apartment, situated at the top of one of Brighton’s most prominent seafront hotels, has a spectacular view of the West Pier and out across the English Channel towards the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm. Ideally suited in terms of location, close proximity to the beach and to the independent shops and restaurants Brighton has to offer, our clients were keen to make the most of their apartment that had started to feel tired over the number of years they had owned it, and was in need of a refresh.
Refurbishing & Re-Furnishing
Our remit included many aspects of the refurbishment of this amazing apartment. Our initial conceptual ideas explored options to better configure the kitchen, without disrupting it, by creating a bespoke breakfast bar area up against which bespoke bar stools could be situated so that our clients could have breakfast overlooking the fabulous view. We also designed and created a bespoke banquette within the dining area, complete with sumptuous seat and scatter cushions in fabrics inspired by our client’s existing artwork and the apartment’s eclectic Brighton location.
We also replaced the existing flooring throughout the apartment, specifying a bamboo floor in a dark contemporary finish. The two bathrooms were refurbished in order to solve some wear and tear issues, and to better suit the family and their two grown-up daughters. All three bedrooms got the Pfeiffer Design treatment, too, with new beds, furniture, window treatments and soft furnishings throughout.
A prime example of our full design service
This beachside apartment is a prime example of our full design service. With our clients based in Buckinghamshire, we were able to coordinate the entire project remotely, liaising with the building’s concierge team when it came to installation and deliveries, and being on site to oversee all installation, deliveries and construction work, where required. Being on the tenth-floor certainly presented some challenges (think one member of our team standing outside in a blowing gale with two mattresses flailing about, waiting for assistance to bring them up to the apartment!) but we think you’ll agree the result speaks for itself and certainly makes the most of that show-stopping view.
Bespoke upholstery and soft furnishings formed a key part of the design remit for this project. We designed and created soft pinch pleat headed curtains and Roman blinds throughout, as well as a bespoke tongue and groove panelled headboard wall, and an upholstered fluted headboard, incorporating switches and sockets in one of the girls’ bedrooms. And, naturally, the scheme has been completed by an abundance of piped scatter cushions, designed and handmade by us – right here in East Sussex.
