It’s hard to believe now, but this beautiful rural cottage, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Grade II Listed, stood empty and unloved for years in the grounds of a large country house in Mid Sussex. Happily, its owners decided to refurbish it, and we were thrilled to be given the task of designing the interior, ready for its new role as secondary guest accommodation.
Working closely with the housekeeper, we assembled a team of professionals including architects, engineers and our preferred main contractor. The biggest challenge we faced was the deadline: the entire refurbishment had to be planned and completed in just 13 weeks.
We gave the interiors an uncomplicated, rustic feel, creating a relaxed, informal atmosphere that would be comfortable and practical for our client’s guests. We provided absolutely every element of this project, including manufacturing all the soft furnishings. The results are charming and we’re delighted to have been involved in bringing this lovely building back to life. Even today, several years after completion, this project remains one of our favourites.
