Historic library

Sympathetic and functional design

We were asked to be interior design consultants to create some design principles for the historic and incredibly beautiful Grade II listed library in Hastings which first opened in 1881.

We were asked to create designs that enhanced and are sympathetic to the character of the building.

Inclusive and accessible

Our experience working with Grade II listed heritage buildings has enabled us to develop a concept and a colour scheme that remains sympathetic to and enhances the historical character of the building- retaining and restoring original features whilst merging contemporary additions.

The colour schemes and material specifications have been developed specifically to be attractive and inclusive to all; from children, the elderly, visually impaired, to autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s sufferers. Our concept uses colours derived from the natural world, offering readers a calm and relaxing environment.
